Oh Julia, we have been waiting over 100 years for you

We have been waiting 100 years for this. Well, not we, as in me sitting here writing this and you sitting there reading it. But we, as in Australian women, collectively. And plenty of Australian men too.
Yep, Julia Gillard is the new Prime Minister of Australia. I can finally tell my daughters what a great thing it is, and what a real possibility it is, for either one of them to reach the highest levels in any arena in this great country of ours. And I can really mean it.
I feel a bit like I did when Obama was sworn in, only then I was removed and now, this is my country and Gillard is a chick who somehow - just by being female - represents me. Yep, even though she's a red-head and a POM and has no kids and lives the urban lifestyle.
For some reason I feel like she represents me better than any bloke in a suit ever did.
Yeah, but do you like 'her' Chezzle? And do you you think she's a good leader, apart from being female.
Like you, I feel positive about the change, but for different reasons. I was not overly impressed by having to choose between the hot air balloons of Ruddy and Mr Rabbit at the next election.
The new appointment of Gillard makes the choice a lot clearer for me. However, she is still a politician, and a member of a political party. They all waste too much time in attacking each other, which we have to fund them to do. I reserve my judgement until we've seen what kind of a job she does.
I found the Mr Rabbit comment funny as someone in our household made the comment that she reminded them of a mouse and someone else said she looks like her face is carved out of cheese. Probably because of her beautiful creamy yellow complexion. I too am reserving my judgement. I feel no excitement either way. I plan to wait and see. Now if Benny Hill was PM that would be something to crow about.
